One of the main stumbling blocks a lot of new users face is how to upload new themes or plugins to their website. Knowing how to use FTP is a prerequisite of installing WordPress anyway, so you should have a good idea of how to do it.

I found a fantastic site for WordPress help called Village Idiot. There is a really good tutorial on how to use FTP, showing you by adding a theme to your WordPress website.
