An Open Question to Mac Users

Posted: July 11th, 2008 | Author: Patrick | Filed under: Apple | Tags: , | No Comments »

In a few months I hope to purchase a new laptop. I am in fact planning to make the switch to an Apple. For various reasons, I have had it with Windows. Right now, I use Windows XP about half the time, and Ubuntu 8.04 the other half of the time. I have a few questions for Mac users:

For web designers/programmers/graphic designers/etc:

  • Is a Macbook Pro necessary?

Everyone else:

  • Do you find yourself missing software from Windows (without resorting to VMWare, etc.)?
  • Do you feel the extra money for less hardware (compared to a Windows PC) was worth it?

Leave your opinion in the comments. Thanks!

AT&T iPhone 3G Launch = Epic Fail

I just have to laugh about how bad AT&T seems to be botching today’s iPhone 3G launch. I’ve been watch TWiTLive’s coverage from different Apple Store locations, and the Apple “Geniuses” are outside telling everyone that AT&T’s activation servers are down. One can only imagine what Steve Jobs is thinking right now!

There was also be a cheaper non-3G (meaning the current version) version in addition to the new iPhone. GPS will be built in. I did not like this phone before, but I like it now. Stay tuned!

If you have any interest at all about Apple, make sure to check out these news sources:

Rumors have it that a new iPhone will be announced today. Supposedly Apple will soon announce back to school price cuts as well, but i doubt this is really the venue for that, and very early to do that to boot.

New iMacs Available Now

I actually love how Apple is starting to do their new product launches. There is always small talk whenever they are going to launch something but it generally is not enough time to get a whole lot of steam built up. It is really good from their standpoint because it does not give the critics a whole lot of time, but it also doesn’t give a consumer that isn’t really in the Apple loop less time for research as well.

The main things are just a ramp-up of CPU speeds and graphics but anytime more hardware for the same price happens, it’s a good thing. The bad thing: Yet one more thing to start budgeting for.
