Being that I spend a sickening amount of time in front of my computer, I am always looking for cool programs that help to make me more productive, stay organized better, and forgive my genuine hatred of most of the human race ( O.K., so two out of 3 ain’t bad).

launchy-screen-round One of the absolute best pieces of software I have ever used is called Launchy. Basically you hit the hotkey to start Launchy (by default it is set to ALT+Space). There are a few common "macros" built into Launchy that you can try.

  1. Type "Google" and then press the TAB key.
  2. Type a search term, and press enter.
  3. A new tab or window (depending on what browser you use) with what you searched for.

Now I know this is everyone’s cup of tea, but if you tend to use the keyboard a good deal, you will appreciate this program. All of us computer geeks use the mouse as little as possible. It gets annoying to move my hand from the mouse to the keyboard when you are writing a program.

Lifehacker has some great tips on enhancing Launchy’s functionality.
