CSS Techniques: Using Sliding Doors with Wordpress Navigation

Hack WordPress has a fantastic tutorial about how to implement the Sliding Doors technique with WordPress. It is one of those little things that can really breathe some life and a more organic feel to your blog.

New Look for BLM Coming Soon

Well, I’ve just have some testing to do later tonight on it, but hopefully by tomorrow I will have the new design for the site up. I did it completely from scratch, and I am sort of using it as a holdover theme. I have a really sweet design I have been sketching out but I don’t feel like starting on it quite yet, so I will let this other design be used for a while as I design the new one.

WordPress Theme Viewer (Finally) Updated

After what’s been months, the WordPress Theme Viewer has been updated to look and work just like the rest of WordPress.org. When I get some free time, I will go back and edit a few small things on my themes as they changed the guidelines for acceptance a little bit. Once the themes are ready, I will add mine to the viewer.

Yahoo Finally Flexes Some Muscle in Proxy Fight

Yahoo has finally decided to show it is not going to roll over in it’s proxy fight with Carl Icahn. Right on it’s home page, they have a link to a page bringing more attention to this proxy battle. Yahoo’s home page is one of the most viewed pages on the entire web. It’s trying to inform the stockholders and general public who aren’t familiar with what is going on about how Icahn is trying to oust the current board.

Personally, it was a massive mistake for Yahoo to walk away from Microsoft’s $33 a share offer despite the fact Yahoo is a completely different corporate culture than Microsoft. I do think they will be able to convince enough stockholders to stop Icahn.

Plurk API coming today?

There are a few loud whispers today that the downtime on Plurk this morning has to do with the fact that they will soon be releasing their API. I honestly can’t wait until they do, I want to write a plugin for WordPress using Plurk so naturally it is a ton easier when you don’t have to reverse engineer it.

Don’t forget to swing by and say hi on my Plurk page.

Nancy Pelosi is my new Hero (ok, thats a stretch……)

I can’t stand Nancy Pelosi or George Bush, but at the very least she gained some brownie points on this one. Someone in her position coming right out and saying “total failure” takes one serious set that I was convinced she had anyway, and not because of politics.

Yet Another Reason WordPress Rocks

As many of us know, WordPress rocks big time. Here is just another reason why.

I am always paying attention to who is linking to me. I don’t want some link farm picking me up as a link as that usually looks bad to search engines. One of my incoming links, I did not recognize at all, so I checked out the site. Well, to my surprise they were ripping off stories of mine! I reported it to wordpress.com as it was a hosted wordpress.com blog. Five minutes later, Alex from WordPress emails me and said he issued a warning to the user to remove the content, otherwise I can file a DMCA complaint and have it taken down. I won’t go that far, but I have ever right to defend my content.

Thanks for the awesome quick work Alex!

“Critical” Ubuntu Bug

How can the Ubuntu developers possibly worry about silly things such as working on better dual head support when things like this hang over their heads?

Bug #56125 in apt Ubuntu: “apt-get moo doesnt look like a cow”

Make sure you read the ensuing comments. Software bugs can be funny!

Real Life Strikes Again!

Just letting everyone know I’ve had a busy few days of real life…..always seems to get in the way of coding and designing!

There is a lot of stuff coming up soon though. Remember to let anyone you think is interested about this site!

Brett Favre is Unreal

As you probably have not ascertained from this blog, I am a massive NFL fan. I am a lifelong New York Giants fan, and so are my wife and my sons and most of my extended family. However, Brett Favre is a crybaby.

His constant back and forth “I want to play, I want to retire” got old real quickly. Now he is complaining because Green Bay won’t release him? He says he wants his release because he no longer feels welcome. Well, Sherlock, when you string them along for the longest time, that’s what happens. I have nothing but the utmost respect for his skill; he is quite possibly one of the best quarterbacks ever to hit the field. But now he is just acting as if he is owed something and that the entire Green Bay team revolves around him.
